Providing one-on-one tutoring for the Bay Area for 10 years and counting
Need a little extra help on homework? Is distance learning more than you can handle? Did you miss a week of class and now you're totally lost? I've been there, too. I'm here to, hopefully, make things a little bit easier by providing individualized and restorative tutoring that is based on a growth mindset.
About me
Like most of my students, I didn't like math. It made no sense, no one could explain it to me, I always got frustrated and gave up. In return, my high school math teachers gave up on me, as I was thought to be "unteachable". So when I decided to start over with my education, that meant math, too. Over 5 years, I went from Fundamental Arithmetic, where I first started tutoring my fellow classmates, to Multivariable Calculus.
I first started tutoring as a volunteer, helping classmates get ready for tests and doing test corrections. It was there that I learned that I was really good at explaining math concepts. My confidence grew into enthusiasm for the subject, and my enthusiasm made me a very dynamic tutor. In February of 2012, I decided that I wanted to be a tutor full time, to work one-on-one with struggling students, giving them a place to ask questions out of sheer curiosity, free from any embarrassment. I wanted to help students so they didn't have to struggle as I did.
In 2015, I transferred from West Valley Community College to UC Santa Cruz where I got my BA in Mathematics Education with a Minor in STEM Education.
I have worked at a few other educational institutions over the years, but working with my students has always been my passion and my priority.
